Blast Walls

Specialist Services have been designing and manufacturing blast walls since 1995.

The requirement for blast walls has increased significantly over recent years, both for protection of personnel as well as for assets. We have made sure to continually update our products in line with these requirements to give our clients peace of mind.

Typically, blast walls are designed for 0.1 – 0.5 bar over pressure, however, much higher blast loadings can be designed depending upon the requirement, as there are no limiting factors.  Typically, blast walls designed by Specialist Services are analysed within the elastic range, however, an elasto-plastic design is also an option, and both are calculated using the single degree of freedom and effective section modulus analysis approach. We follow strict processes, working with the client to deliver the best solution for each individual case. Following design stages, we make sure to obtain verification by a recognised third party, and can therefore provide clients with design appraisals so as to meet the highest safety standards.

In addition to blast walls, we have the ability to design & manufacture blast decks.  Typical configuration options available for wall & decks are:

•    Vertical cladding
•    Vertical columns with horizontal cladding
•    Vertical plate with stiffeners

Blast walls are typically combined with firewalls to provide protection of people and assets from the initial blast, followed by passive fire protection required by the ensuing fire. All of the fire classification options offered under our firewall section can be applied to blast walls / decks.
